Monte Cristo in a Puff Pastry Share Tags: appetizer Delicious and filling, this can also be made using a croissant if you want it with a bit more flavor and flaky crust! Prep time: 15 minutes | Cook time: 35 minutes | Total time: 50 minutes | Servings: 4 4 tbsp. of butter
2 tbsp. of melted butter
4 ounce(s) of Philadelphia cream cheese
1/2 cup(s) of shredded cheddar cheese
1/2 cup(s) of shredded swiss cheese
1 cup(s) of thickly sliced and cubed turkey meat
1 cup(s) of thickly sliced and cubed ham
3 tbsp. of chicken stock
1 pinch of salt and pepper
4 puff pastries or croissants
Steps
Preheat oven to 375 degrees.
To make the rue, begin by melting 4 tbsp of butter in a small saucepan. Add the 4 tbsp of flour to the melted butter, and mix well. Be careful, it will burn easily so make sure to keep it on low heat.
When the rue starts to turn a golden color add the 4 ounces of cream cheese, the ½ cup shredded cheddar cheese, the ½ cup shredded swiss cheese, and 3 tbsp of chicken stock.
Once cheese is all melted add in the two cups of turkey and ham.
Sprinkle a pinch of salt and pepper, mix and combine everything well.
Grease baking tray.
Lay puff pastry flat on baking tray. Add mixture in, fold over and pinch dough closed.
Light brush tops of pastries with remainder of melted butter (@2tbsp)
Bake for about 20 minutes for croissants, 35 minutes for puff pastries.
