Gluten Free Whoopie Cookies
Today's Creation:
Gluten Free Whoopie Cookies
Food historians say that Amish women would bake these desserts (known as huckle bucks, or creamy turtles at the time) and put them in farmers lunch pails or lunch boxes.
When farmers would find the treats in their lunch they would shout " Whoopie" .
It is thought that the original Whoopie pies may have been made from cake batter left overs...

Why You Should Drink Warm Water and Lemon
According
to Ayurvedic philosophy, choices that you make regarding your daily
routine either build up resistance to disease or tear it down.
Ayurveda
invites us to get a jump-start on the day by focusing on morning
rituals that work to align the body with nature's rhythms, balance the doshas and foster self-esteem alongside self-discipline.
Your
mind may say you have to check emails, take the dog out, get the kids
out the door, that you can't be late for work or that you just don't
have enough time to cultivate your own morning rituals.
But, if you can only make time for one ritual that will improve your health, let it be this.....
Start the day out with a mug of warm water and the juice of half a lemon.
It's so simple and the benefits are just too good to ignore. Warm water with lemon:
1. Boosts your immune system
Lemons
are high in Vitamin C and potassium. Vitamin C is great for fighting
colds and potassium stimulates brain and nerve function and helps
control blood pressure.
2. Balances pH
Lemons
are an incredibly alkaline food, believe it or not. Yes, they are
acidic on their own, but inside our bodies they're alkaline (the citric
acid does not create acidity in the body once metabolized). As you
wellness warriors know, an alkaline body is really the key to good health.
3. Helps with weight loss
Lemons
are high in pectin fiber, which helps fight hunger cravings. It also
has been shown that people who maintain a more alkaline diet lose weight
faster. And, my experience is that when I start the day off right, it's
easier to make the best choices for myself the rest of the day.
4. Aids digestion
The
warm water serves to stimulate the gastrointestinal tract and
peristalsis—the waves of muscle contractions within the intestinal walls
that keep things moving. Lemons and limes are also high in minerals and
vitamins and help loosen ama, or toxins, in the digestive tract.
5. Acts as a gentle, natural diuretic
Lemon
juice helps flush out unwanted materials because lemons increase the
rate of urination in the body. Toxins are, therefore, released at a
faster rate which helps keep your urinary tract healthy.
6. Clears skin
The
vitamin C helps decrease wrinkles and blemishes. Lemon water purges
toxins from the blood which helps keep skin clear as well.
7. Hydrates the lymph system
This cup of goodness helps start the day on a hydrated note, which helps prevent dehydration (obviously) and adrenal fatigue.
When your body is dehydrated, or deeply dehydrated (adrenal fatigue) it
can't perform all of it's proper functions, which leads to toxic
buildup, stress, constipation, and the list goes on. Your adrenals
happen to be two small glands that sit on top of your kidneys, and along
with your thyroid, create energy. They also secrete important hormones,
including aldosterone. Aldosterone is a hormone secreted by your
adrenals that regulates water levels and the concentration of minerals,
like sodium, in your body, helping you stay hydrated. Your adrenals are
also responsible for regulating your stress response. So, the bottom
line is that you really don't want to mess with a deep state of
dehydration!
Adopting just this one practice of
drinking a cup of warm water with lemon in the morning for a month can
radically alter your experience of the day. Don't be surprised if you
begin to view mornings in a new light.
Like I said, the recipe is really simple—a cup of warm (not hot) water and the juice from half a lemon.
In
the comments below, tell me which one of these benefits is going to get
you to try this morning ritual. Or, if you're already a lemon water
junkie, what specific benefits have you noticed?

Burger King May Be Serving You Horse Meat
Burger King May Be Serving You Horse Meat
By MindBodyGreen
Here's one: your hamburger just might contain horse meat.
After weeks of denial, Burger King admitted this week that trace amounts of "equine DNA" were found in patties from one of its suppliers in Ireland.
This potentially affected Burger King outlets in the UK, Ireland and Denmark.
Burger
King claims that the horse meat never made its way into stores, and
has since started buying meat from German and Italian suppliers.
We already knew that fast food companies aren't watching out for us, but this is a new (pardon the pun) whopper of a lie.
We'll stick to a plant-based diet, thanks!
And if you're going to eat meat, please do yourself a favor and know where your food comes from.
What's your take?

10 Signs You're Gluten Intolerant
It is also estimated that as much as 15% of the US population is gluten intolerant. Could you be one of them?
If you have any of the following symptoms it could be a sign that you have gluten intolerance:
1.
Digestive issues such as gas, bloating, diarrhea and even constipation.
I see the constipation particularly in children after eating gluten.
2. Keratosis Pilaris,
(also known as ‘chicken skin’ on the back of your arms). This tends be
as a result of a fatty acid deficiency and vitamin A deficiency
secondary to fat-malabsorption caused by gluten damaging the gut.
3. Fatigue, brain fog or feeling tired after eating a meal that contains gluten.
4. Diagnosis
of an autoimmune disease such as Hashimoto’s thyroiditis, Rheumatoid
arthritis, Ulcerative colitis, Lupus, Psoriasis, Scleroderma or Multiple
sclerosis.
5. Neurologic symptoms such as dizziness or feeling of being off balance.
6. Hormone imbalances such as PMS, PCOS or unexplained infertility.
8.
Diagnosis of chronic fatigue or fibromyalgia. These diagnoses simply
indicate your conventional doctor cannot pin point the cause of your
fatigue or pain.
9. Inflammation, swelling or pain in your joints such as fingers, knees or hips.
10. Mood issues such as anxiety, depression, mood swings and ADD.
How to test for gluten intolerance?
I have found the single best ways to determine if you have an issue with gluten is to do an elimination diet and
take it out of your diet for at least 2 to 3 weeks and then reintroduce
it. Please note that gluten is a very large protein and it can take
months and even years to clear from your system so the longer you can
eliminate it from your diet before reintroducing it, the better.
The
best advice that I share with my patients is that if they feel
significantly better off of gluten or feel worse when they reintroduce
it, then gluten is likely a problem for them. In order to get accurate
results from this testing method you must elimination 100% of the gluten
from your diet.
How to treat gluten intolerance?
Eliminating
gluten 100% from your diet means 100%. Even trace amounts of gluten
from cross contamination or medications or supplements can be enough to
cause an immune reaction in your body.
The
80/20 rule or “we don’t eat it in our house, just when we eat out” is a
complete misconception. An article published in 2001 states that for
those with celiac disease or gluten sensitivity eating gluten just once a
month increased the relative risk of death by 600%.
Still unsure?
Seek out an integrative practitioner or functional medicine physician to help to guide you.
